Capital One Savor Card Arrives with 3% Cash Back on Dining

Capital One has been testing out the water to see how much people like being rewarded for dining out. Earlier this year they launched their Premier Dining Rewards Card and the attention it received was enough for them to jump all the way into the credit card dining rewards market. Leading to them to release the Capital One Savor Card.

Dining Out Rewards

With bonus category cards being very popular as of late, it is hard to find a straightforward cash back card that gives you extra rewards in the places where you spend the most. With Capital One Savor card you will earn a decent 3% cash back on dining out, 2% cash back on groceries, and 1% cash back on everything else. What makes this card even better for die hard foodies, is that Capital One uses merchant codes to determine what counts as purchase made in the 3% cash back category. Which will include places like Starbucks, food trucks, bakeries, etc. Making almost all places you can get food earn you your extra rewards.

Right now, the Capital One Savor Card is offering a one time signup bonus of $150 after you spend $500 on purchases within the first 3 months. There is also the option to take advantage of 0% APR on purchase and balance transfers for the first 9 months. But beware of the 3% balance transfer fee if you are looking for this option. Alternatives such as the Chase Slate card are much better and there is no balance transfer fee (for transfers made within the first 60 days). The Capital One Savor card also has no annual fee and there are no foreign transaction fees when you spend abroad as well.

Capital One Savor Design

To make this card even more appealing to dining out junkies, Capital One designed their new plastic card to look like the color of copper cookware. They even brought in former actress, and now expert foodie, Sarah Michelle Gellar to help with the launch of the new Savor Card. With so many credit cards looking a lot alike, it should be easy to know which card you want to hand your server next time you are out.

Other Options

If you dine out a lot and love the option of earning simple cash back, then this Capital One Savor Card would be a great fit in your wallet. Although, the 2% cash back it earns on groceries can be easily beat by other cards out there, such as the Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express, that earns 6% cash back on your first $6,000 spent on groceries a year. It all depends on how many credit cards you want to juggle to maximize the rewards you get.
