Uber has teamed up with Barclaycard to issue it’s own branded Visa Card this fall. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, you’ll start to see what this card has to offer soon. They were not clear on any details, as far as rewards and benefits it will add to riders who use it, but it will be interesting to see what they come up with. It will also be interesting to see how this effects current credit cards that offer Uber incentives. Currently, the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Chase Sapphire Preferred Cards offer bonus points for travel expenses (including Uber), and the American Express Platinum Card offers a $15 Uber credit each month (in December it’s $35).
With the recent bad press that Uber has received it has rolled out a “180 days of change” campaign, focused mainly on drivers and supporting them. This may or may not be part of that, but this addition clearly is focused on getting more customers to utilize the ride sharing app. Uber will be the first ride sharing company to offer their own branded credit card, so we are curious to see how this will effect current incentives (mentioned above) that are already offered by credit card companies, and also if Uber’s main competitor, Lyft, will follow suit.
If you haven’t tried out Uber yet, it is a great and convenient way to get around. Here at Casavvy we use it frequently and rarely have any problems. New accounts can even get their first ride free here.
